Australia’s major botanic gardens united to assist ecosystem restoration in response to recent bushfires

The impact of the 2019/2020 bushfires on our native plants and animals was severe. Millions of hectares of native habitat were burnt, putting at risk the survival of plant and animal species.

In February 2020 the Council of Heads of Australian Botanic Gardens released a statement in recognition of the fires, and affirmed its commitment to support the recovery process by providing access to botanic gardens’ living collections of plants and seeds, as well as to the botanical and research expertise in gardens across the country. These contributions to the recovery effort are ongoing across the partner gardens and seed banks.
